THE FEAR OF
THE LORD
Proverbs 1:7 | Job 28:28
THE PARADOX
“We desire the fruit of wisdom—stable lives, strong families, and inner peace—without the root of wisdom.”
“Intelligence without submission is merely a more efficient way to fail.”
THE THESIS
True wisdom begins in reverence and submission to God, not self-confidence or worldly knowledge.
You cannot sincerely ask for guidance from a Being you do not respect.
I. THE FOUNDATION
“The Fear of the Lord”
  • Not Terror: But the trembling awe of a creature before its Creator.
  • Awe: Prevents trivializing holy things.
  • Submission: Strips away the “yes, but…” from our vocabulary.
II. THE CONTRAST
“Fools Despise Wisdom”
  • The Fool (ěwîl): Not unintelligent, but morally deficient.
  • Moral Stubbornness: Knowing what is right but finding it inconvenient.
  • Pride: Being offended by Scripture rather than convicted.
III. THE PRAYER
“If any of you lacks wisdom…”
  • Admit the Lack: Confess “I do not know the way.”
  • Ask without Doubting: Pre-commit to obey the answer before you receive it.
Prayer for wisdom is the operational act of the fear of the Lord.
