What is Fellowship?

❓ Is it just coffee and donuts?

❓ Is it just being in the same room?

❓ Is it simply hanging out?

➤ Dinner with the team was fun.

➤ But was it Fellowship?

➤ Or was it just Camaraderie?

I. Defining Our Relationships

Friendship

♥ Based on Mutual Affection (“I like you”).

★ Shared hobbies and personalities.

⚠ Emotional support, but optional spiritual growth.

Camaraderie

⚓ Based on Mutual Goals.

👥 Teammates, Coworkers, Soldiers.

⚠ Situational: lacks the spiritual depth of Christ.

Shared Life in Christ

The 1 John 1 Standard

“…indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.”

1 John 1:3

▲ Fellowship is a Triangle.

➔ You + Me + God.

“If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”

1 John 1:6

✖ You cannot have fellowship while hiding in sin.

The Difference

1. Friendship: “I enjoy you.”

2. Camaraderie: “We are in this together.”

3. Fellowship: “We are in Christ together.“

II. The Table

Where Fellowship Begins

The Early Church

➤ Breaking bread from house to house.

➤ Gladness and sincerity of heart.

➤ The conversation was about Jesus.

Jesus at the Table

● Luke 7: Forgiving sins with Pharisees.

● Luke 19: Zacchaeus – “Salvation has come.”

➤ He didn’t wait for perfection; He brought Transformation.

III. Moving from Surface to Spirit

The Coffee Shop Shift

1. Joking about sports (Friendship).

2. Admitting a struggle (Honesty).

3. Heads bowed in prayer (Fellowship).

“But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another…”

1 John 1:7

☀ Walking in the Light = Being Honest.

☀ Stepping out of hiding.

Practical Steps

1. Invite someone to your table.

2. Pray before you eat (and mean it).

3. Walk in the Light. Share honestly.

Conclusion

➤ Fellowship is not just hanging out.

➤ It is intentional commitment.

➤ It is bearing burdens while walking in the light.

The Ultimate Invitation

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him…”

❓ Are you walking in darkness? Step into the Light.

❓ Are you a child of God?
